With fuel prices so high, it would be nice if people could be productive from home rather than having to drive all over. I believe we will one day see a large number of public school students going less and less days to school and doing more online schoolwork to save on the cost of transporting them. I don’t think it is a good thing for everyone though; it is going to mean a lot of teens are unsupervised and the juvenile crime rate is going to soar. BUT if at least one parent was also working from home that could help.
I also think people that stay home need to be proactive about a exercise plan. Just based on my own observations, it seems that the stay-at-home types are more likely to be overweight than the rest of the population. Again, I don’t have anything to back that up, just something I’ve observed. With things like the Wii Fit out there, there are ways to stay in shape without having to drive to a gym or pay for sports teams year after year.
I don’t guess that is exactly what you mean, but it is my idea of a productive home- one that can earn a living at home and stay educated and active.
Laura, your comment “it seems that the stay-at-home types are more likely to be overweight than the rest of the population” made me giggle! First of all, I didn’t know we were a “type” and secondly all of my friends are actually quite skinny, excluding myself at the moment because of being 5 mos pregnant. Gosh, we don’t get to sit much, let along eat much so we don’t have time to get fat!
Obviously you are sitting if you are on you are on a computer reading blogs. And yes, some people are the tpye to stay home more and some people are out of the home more. Now you know.
Liked very much…In addition to normal chick duties, I am the handy man of our family, so I feel over productive ;~). I often wonder where my joked about champagne and caviar are…. The great news is our daughter is learning to do a of of these things too, because I make her sit along side and help.
I am glad the focus of many moms is turning to training their children to run their own homes in the future.
I thoroughly enjoyed your post at Raising Homemakers! It was an encouragement to me in what I’m already doing and gave me some new ideas to work on!
