Home marriage My Beloved

My Beloved

by Kelly Crawford

To My Beloved Aaron,

Ten years ago today, we stood, looking quite like children (and thinking like them too!), and pledged our covenant vows to one another. Little did we know how far our journey would take us in these ten short years!

God’s grace still amazes me…to have given me such a man as you are! So full of strength, and calmness and an unwavering determination to love me unconditionally…to lay down your life for me, just as Christ did for His bride. I don’t deserve you.

Where I am flighty, you are still; where I am uncertain you are steady and constant as the stars; where I am always changing, you are the same; and where I fall short, you pick up the slack.

You love me when I am unloveable; you protect me from my own lofty ambitions; you let me dream, all the while staying close by as my anchor of reality.

You have forgiven me even before I ask; and you look at me through rose-colored lenses–I know, because you treat me like the queen that I am not.

To our children, you are their every dream. Our daughters can only pray to be blessed with a husband like their daddy; and our sons, praise His name, have a most incredible example to follow before they hold their own little ones.

Where do we go from here?

How about our front porch rocking chairs…holding hands, and dreaming about the next ten years!

She is fourteen…yes, born out of wedlock–4 years old when we married.

The Lord has surely given me beauty for ashes!

This is long after the original post, but (in my journey through the archives here) I just had to comment on what a beautiful tribute you wrote. It should be on a greeting card that I can give to my husband for our 25th anniversary next month! Everything you wrote about Aaron I could say about my husband.

Thank you for the reminder, Kelly, of what a blessing from the Lord a godly man is!
