This song is just solid to me and every time I listen I’m so thankful for my tender, strong husband who, though imperfect, loves me and leads me because of his desire to follow Christ. Thinking of his enormous job reminds me to try to be the kind of wife who is easy to lead…sadly, I fail at that often. And still, he demonstrates, in my failure, the unending forgiveness of Christ.
“Lord, please make me the kind of woman he delights to love, lead and hold, a woman who speaks with her smile that I appreciate him, a woman who says with the tone of her voice that he is my friend and I enjoy him; may our marriage become more and more a beautiful picture of True Love.”

Kelly, we love this song too. My husband recently did this song at our church. Our pastor was preaching on the man’s role in the family.
Beautiful!!!
This song runs through my head all the time…love it.
We were able to volunteer at a concert that Sanctus Real were the main band. These guys are for real. This song is such a blessing. Just knowing also what all they’ve just come through with their son is amazing as well. Matt has a website called…bowen’s heart that tells the story. Thanks Kelly!
Wow that’s precious! I think most “good” men struggle with finding a balance. IT’s easier for them to let their wives lead because they hate conflict and they like the easier path. And we women who want godly homes want to lead because we sometimes want perfection. I can relate!
This is a great prayer… 🙂
Great prayer and I am thankful my husband is this song!
Oh Kelly, I heard this song last weekend for the first time while Mark and I were heading to Oklahoma. It made me tear up because it’s so beautiful. I hope and pray that it reaches many.
In fact, would you mind if I reposted this on my blog?
Not at all.
Sorry, where in Scripture does it say, specifically that a man should lead?
Ephesians 5.
If Christ “leads” the church, and we know that He does, by direct implication, the husband is required to lead his wife. The idea is a spiritual responsibility which is clearly articulated in this passage. One can’t be a figurative “head” if he isn’t leading. Leading by serving, but leading all the same, just as Christ demonstrated.
Also… I Corinthians 11
verse 3
But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.
The whole chapter is a good read 😉
Also…
Ephesians 5:22
Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. 23For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. 24Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.
Beautiful song!!! I feel I understand the need to be lead, it’s a longing that I had before being married and now since being married I do have a head who is leading us the best that he can 🙂
Thanks for sharing these
[…] videos were posted yesterday by Kelly over at Generation Cedar, so as soon as I saw them, I just had to share it over here, too. The first is a video […]
Well, I’m a blubbering mess of tears now. I guess I can chalk some of it up to pregnancy, but mostly the feeling is from thankfulness that my precious husband llives out this song. I am so blessed that he is my man, and so thankful to be celebrating our 6th anniversary next weekend! God has been more than good to us…to me. I never knew what love was until I married my husband. He has taught me so much with his life.
I love this song too.
