Joy of Forgiveness

by Kelly Crawford

“Father, over and over again I have fallen into the same temptations. It does seem as if I am slow to learn Thy ways and Thy laws. I thank Thee, O Lord Jesus, for the glory of the Gospel of the Second Chance. I would claim from Thee that chance to begin all over again. Thou hast heard my prayer of confession. Now I claim Thy promise to forgive me and to cleanse me. From this moment I accept that forgiveness and that cleansing by faith, and now I ask for Thy spirit to come into me like cool fresh air, to vitalize me, to shock me into a new discipleship, to invigorate me for a new life in Christ Jesus, my Lord. AMEN”

Watched an fantastic movie the other night, Amish Grace, about the way an Amish community forgave the man who brutally murdered 5 of their children. Some of you may remember it happening, I know I do, it made the news here in Australia.

A few things were said that really stuck out.

The first was the mention of Scripture saying that unless we forgive we cannot be forgiven.

Next, we do not forgive for the sake of the person we are forgiving but for our sake because of the above and because

Unforgiveness leads to hate and hate is a very hngry beast that will eat up all the love in our hearts.

This is something we all need to be mindful of. I know I do. My prayer is that I will have such a forgiving heart as the families of those murdered girls.
