The nearest Starbucks coffee is some 40 miles away,
but tomorrow we’ll have butter ’cause we’ve got raw milk today!
It’s not all glam and glitz to dabble on this funny farm,
but we marvel underneath the stars and cherish country charm.
They think I’m “Fertile Myrtle” but they should only see, these goats don’t have a thing on me–this baby’s number three (at a time, that is)!
It may cost less to buy tomatoes at the grocery store,
But watching them sprout from the ground has taught us so much more.
It’s a simple life we live, with its share of dirt and grime,
And as much as I love Starbucks, I’ll take it anytime.
Oh, and maybe life gets a bit too busy? Yesterday, Aaron and I both forgot it was our anniversary 😀
From the kitchen as we got ready for church I called into the bedroom,
“Hey Honey, Happy Anniversary!”
Dead Silence. *hee hee* I can see his face!
Slowly he eased out of the room, not sure if I had just remembered or had just given him ample time to drop the bomb…
I burst into laughter!
Yep, it’s OK to forget as long as you’re not the only one. But I wouldn’t suggest taking the risk if it can be avoided.
So, we went to Starbucks later last night. Well, OK, it wasn’t Starbucks, but that fit with the poem so much better. It was actually a coffee cafe very akin to Starbucks except without the wavy-haired siren.
And Starbucks coffee.

Fabulous pictures!!! You’re the best!
Thank you so much for giving us newcomers a glimpse into your life (especially us visual learners)!
Love this!
I especially love the part about tomatoes. Store-bought can be cheaper, but the experience of self-sufficiency is priceless! 🙂
well happy anniversary. i’m happy to say i picked out a wedding dress today for myself… so this is a nice thing to see, to remind me what’s important and what i have to look forward too….
I LOVE it! Thanks for all the family pictures. I always enjoy them. 🙂
I’m jealous of the milk cow and the raw butter – how nice! And a happy anniversary to you!
I loved the pictures.I could just tast that butter.YUM!Happy anniversary.
Hey Kelly, Ya gotta love that fresh butter. Have you tried washing it with icy water and a metal spoon? It’s less messy and you end up with more butter in the bowl 😉
But it is great for you hands! Daddy dated a woman (very long ago) that worked in a chicken factory and he says she had the smoothest hands he’s ever felt. There you go ladies – smooth hands with chicken fat – ha.
Ya’ll have a great, wonderful, blessed day.
what lovely children you have…Great pictures…Blessings, Heidi
Aboout 6 years ago, my husband and I both forgot our anniversary. We still laugh about it, especially because he was the first to remember it!
Such great pictures and poems! And don’t tell me growing them costs more! ACK! I just convinced my hubby to let me build raised veggie gardens to save $ in the long run! Lettuce here is $2 a head!
Happy Anni! May the next many years be more blessed, productive and prosperous than the last!
Kelly,
I think you’re safe on most veggies. I haven’t really done a cost analysis, but I think there are some types of produce that are either cheaper or very comparable, especially if you count your time (which we don’t do!) But, in the long run, I’m sure growing you’re on is cheaper. You can always count gas to drive to the market (which for us is considerable). Besides that, with the economy as unstable as it is, I would consider learning to grow your own food an invaluable investment.
Would love to know what kind of cow you have?
I love this post! Looks like it could have been at our house and sounds like my life right now.
Very sweet post. Happy Anniversary! May God richly bless your family.
PS, How many years of marriage are ya’ll celebrating?
This is number 12!
Kelly, are those your goats or your parents?
Also, is that a photo of you and Aaron holding hands at the bottom (vs. some random photo)? Honestly, I’m a fan of marital PDAs. 🙂 So sweet!
Lori,
Parents’ goat, our hands 😉
Love the pictures! Happy Anniversary!! 🙂
LOVE this post… so dear to my hear.
You have horses?? Gosh, how lucky.
