Right on point! They each articulated in such simple english something I feel I babble over in trying to explain to others why we homeschool. I’ve been reposting various blog entries from here on my fb page and my ‘comments’ are coming back with women being so encouraged. Your posts are changing me and speak to my heart. Keep carving out time to write!

P.S. Who’s the gentleman who reminds me of Captain Kangaroo in the red hat? I’m not familiar with his bio but I absolutely stand in agreement with what he said!

I think he has been reading William Tell with the family 🙂

I enjoyed these!

I think the guy in the red hat is the guy that wrote “Men of the Middle Ages” and other such books. Homeschooling dad, lots of children, owns a publishing house? His wife revised a CharlotteMason-style grammar book.

I think.

🙂

Why do I have to look past the red hat? I like red hat! (If you are not a linux user, you should just look past this comment. It means nothing.)

I absolutely agree with BOTH these! I grew up watching Kirk Cameron on Growing Pains and was re-introduced to him as an actor when the “Left Behind” movie came out. I read a lot about his Christian beliefs and grew to respect him as a fellow Christian. Before watching this I just assumed that he & his wife were homeschooling their children from the start of their life. It’s great to know that their family is more like mine and that they did the public school ‘thing’ and started to see the conflict between our Christian beliefs & what we learn from the Bible. I always struggled with what was taught in school and what I taught my kids about where they came from. It wasn’t until I got frustrated with public schools that I even thought about pulling the kids out to homeschool them. It was hands down the BEST decision I EVER made FOR, not just my kids, but the WHOLE family. It has lead us to start looking at ways my husband can quit his job & how we can survive with BOTH of us at home all day long doing the work together with our children. We both feel led to do this and we’re not just jumping off a cliff to see how it’ll turn out. 🙂 Right now we have a *target* of next year for him to quit and I’m a little antsy about it. I REALLY want it to happen, but there is still that small voice in the back of my head that is very afraid of not having the consistent pay-check to look forward to. This is going to be a great challenge to trusting God in our entire lives, since we’re going to be totally dependent on Him. We’ve already started prepping for it by living frugally and we are spending lots & lots of time praying about this. It’s going to be such a great move for the entire family. I think of how much having him around will impact our homeschooling – definitely in a positive light! Please pray for us!

And Kelly – thank you for finding such treasures as this! I have been sharing about you with family & friends. And it always seems like the things I struggle to explain to them you have already written for the world to read. I really enjoy jumping online everyday to see what *new* things I will discover on your blog!

And Cindy – I liked the red hat too! Definitely caught my kids eyes! In fact, had a few of them watching the whole video only to tell me thank you for homeschooling them…the little ones didn’t realize that there are kids that go to a building away from their mom’s all day until watching this!

Thank you. You are so on target. We homeschool to bring our children up in a godly environment to mold them into Christ’s image. When public school comes to mind, I don’t fear the misguidance from the curriculum, but rather the powerful pull of peers who are fiercely against God and His Word. We believe we can counter anything a teacher presents, but what other children would put into the heads of my own children is nearly impossible to compete with. We pray for children in public and private schools. Those families have huge battle ahead of them.

Great and encouraging Kirk Cameron video! I love that the Camerons are now homeschooling. It has been such a blessing, and I get so excited when families start it!

I don’t know what the second man said, I could only see his hat. I heard, “Homeschooling something…hat hat hat…teaching something….hat hat hat”. It made me giggle, but I’ll have to watch the video again once I get the giggles out! ;oD
