“Be still and know that I am God.”
We are so distracted. Everywhere I look–iPhones, iPads, iPods, televisions in every public place, demanding schedules, cell phones ringing constantly, texts demanding answers, media blasting–a continual bombardment of information through all the technology available.
Can we hear each other? Can we hear the voice of our Creator–it is a small, still voice.
“The earth declares his glory.”
Do we look? Do we listen anymore? Do we ever just sit quietly and think, and talk, and ponder? Do we let Him speak?
“Be still and know that I am God.”
Give me, Lord, a quiet heart
While all about is loud,
Help me find some solitude
When pressing is the crowd.
When life brings change, and even tears
Let my soul stay calm,
Be my constant, steady Guide,
My tender, soothing Balm.
When I find the waves are high,
Let me look to Thee,
The burning Beacon in the night
Reared high above the sea.
In the midst of change and tireless rush
Be my constant Peace,
Lead my thoughts to quietness
And cause the noise to cease.
Sovereign are Your ways, O Lord,
If I will just believe,
The whole world spins upon your palm,
And this, my soul, relieves.

This is beautiful. I have often wondered are we raising a Generation that will no longer to have to ability to communicate one on one? So sad. Greatful for my little, mostly quiet, 😉 existence. Praying for you in these last few days.
This is a topic near and dear to my heart as I raise four children. I pray that we can raise them to know and appreciate times of QUIET!!

Such a beautiful poem! Thank you for sharing. I think of this also for homeschooling. When the focus is so much on academics and activities and tests, I wonder if we are learning anything that really matters. The days spent in quiet and simple things like conversation and reading seem so much more “productive” at times.

Such an important reminder. I think much older, classic children’s literature provides examples for our children of little people their own age who did know how to ponder, observe nature, spend time alone, and have meaningful conversations with adults. That’s one reason I like it so much.

This is something I need. I actually have caught myself trying to avoid quiet. For some reason, quiet times cause me to think and fear very deeply. Especially at night while lying in bed. Fear can be paralying at times.
