Home motherhood/family/parenting The Best Thing…

The Best Thing…

by Kelly Crawford

What if the best thing I can do for my children, is not

another lecture…

another frown…

another privilege removed…

another forced apology…

What if the best thing I can do for my children is to call them away with a love-sick heart that wants nothing more than to “see that my children walk in truth”, and beckon them to kneel with me before the presence of a holy God…to bathe in His grace and know He gives power through it–through their struggles and mine, through their temptations and weakness and hard places–so that we can walk in newness of life.

Why do we leave the power of God’s promises untapped?

Yes.  Let me do that for them.  Show them their need for forgiveness so that they can forgive.  Let me do that for them again and again.

Piercing and wonderful. To create one who does what is honoring to the Lord JUST to honor Him, and not to stay out of trouble…what a wonderful life that would be!

Lucy T.,

And because these posts are in large just a tapping out of what the Lord whispers to my heart, it is why I write here daily.

Ouch. There’s something to work on. I’m definitely better at those first four.

[…] here’s the really good part…this happened on the same day I posted about teaching our children forgiveness. God does love a good, “let’s see what ya got?” doesn’t […]

Perfectly written, Kelly. If I have spent time with my family at the foot of the cross, then it has been a good day, no matter what else may come.

thank you so much for the regular reminders that it’s not about me, it’s about loving and serving Jesus Christ, and loving and serving others.
I need these reminders!! 🙂

Thank you for encouraging us to remember Christ in all things, especially in mercy for our children. The oldest of our 13 children is 29 now and very far away from God and the truths we tried to teach her and her siblings. We were not very good parents in this young years and I have many tearful regrets, mostly being so strict and unyielding in discipline, believing I had to be describe and firm to get their attention. I tried to build them up, too. But I see now that I was too harsh. The youngest two are 10 and 12. I will try to show more of Christ, forgiveness and mercy when dealing with the more disobedient ones, particularly some of our teens. It’s a daily walk and desire for wisdom in all things.

Susan,

I am so sorry. I know the heartbreak of a mother and I know the grief of a living child. Praying that she would come to the Lord because of the truth that you planted in her heart. No parent does it right all the time, and we can believe God’s grace covers that.
