“I think God gives us the wisdom to make choices…”
I disagree with that statement. I think God gives us the capacity for obtaining wisdom, but we aren’t born with godly wisdom; we’re born with human wisdom, the one thing God warned against all throughout Scripture.
“We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way;” Isaiah 53:6
“Get wisdom! Get understanding!” Proverbs 4:5
“Yes, if you cry out for discernment, and lift up your voice for understanding, if you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasures; Then you will understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God.” Proverbs 2:3-5
Did you pay attention to the language? “If you CRY OUT”…this is the language of urgency and pleading!
How many of us are crying out for wisdom before we make decisions? How many of us are searching for understanding, for the “knowledge of God” like we would search for gold?
As a mother with little ones, are we crying out for wisdom? As parents making decisions about our children’s lives, are we pursuing discretion with everything in us?
Or are we letting the world dictate our choices without a second thought?
Do we even believe that God has an answer for every detail of our lives?
Do you think the world would look different if every Christian everywhere approached life this way?
God is ready to pour out His wisdom…the question is, are we ready to pursue it?

Amen!
I think it really should be obvious that humans are not born with an innate sense of wisdom. I mean, really, we just have to look around to see that. lol
Wisdom comes from God and his word. And boy, do we make a mess when we confuse our emotions for “wisdom”.
Amen! James 1:5 says If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all [men] liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
Just like salvation, we have to ask for it. Then respect it and honor it when we receive it! We barely make a decision without asking God. Even for what movies we watch, where we go, when we are to go. I honestly cannot fathom living a life where I am in charge of everything. I’m pretty smart by the world’s standards, but according to God’s, a mere infant. It is best to let the lover of our souls lead us. Don’t get me wrong, we still blow it…I guess that is why we aren’t in Heaven yet. *WINK* Thanks for a urging post…we cannot have too much wisdom!
True! It is like a hidden treasure; we must search for it.
I think I get your point but disagree with the wording.
We are obviously not born with wisdom. But God is still the one to give us our wisdom. Saying God gives us “capacity for obtaining wisdom” is putting way too much credit on us when we get it.
I think God’s word is where we obtain the wisdom. Without studying the bible we will might think our own wisdom is from God.
Good post…and once we have wisdom from the Lord, we must obey it. If we ask for wisdom from the Lord and He gives it, and then we do SOMETHING ELSE, we are what the Book of James calls “double minded” and we shouldn’t then expect to receive anything from the Lord. Obedience is a key to gaining much from the Lord’s wisdom.
Good point Mary,
Therefore,to one who knows the right thing to do and does not do it, to him it is sin. James 4:17
