“When men don’t fear God, they give themselves to evil.” Ray Comfort
“Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this [is] the whole [duty] of man.” Ecclesiastes 12:13
Sin is ugly, destructive and it surprises us in our own lives. When we consider why sin seems to get such a foothold even in the church, in Christian families, among those who follow Christ, we could blame a lot of things. But I assert that the root of any cause of our giving in to temptation is a lack of the fear of the Lord. And a lack we do have, generally speaking.
Because most of us think of it as some lofty, maybe outdated sentiment appropriate for theological talk or a mention in a sermon, but few of us live with an understanding of how much the fear of God or the lack thereof, affects our lives.
“The fear of the LORD [is] a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.” Proverbs 14:27
It’s so easy, especially now that the Internet is full of experts on everything, to have our view of God and what Christianity means warped by the things we read. And sometimes it’s just an off-balance thing: like focusing so much on the mercy and tenderness of our Savior while forgetting His power and holiness, which will be executed in justice and wrath. He is both. One or the other is not fully Him and it doesn’t teach us to love Him fully.
Which is why I LOVE what I’m about to share with you.
Starting yesterday, and every day until October, the NCFIC will daily publish a short video clip, by various pastors, on the fear of the Lord, what it really means, and how it affects our lives.
“The secret of the LORD [is] with them that fear him; and he will shew them his covenant.” Psalm 25:14
We are going to watch them as a family each day and I would encourage you to as well.
Just go HERE for the clip.

This sounds like a good video series. When the pastor in the first clip mentioned fearing, and revering, God because of “His love, His beauty, His joy…” it reminded me of reading something very similar in another devotion this week.
I’m going through the Mornings with Tozer devotional e-book by A. W. Tozer this year, and the May 30 devotion was based on Psalm 66:16.
“Come and hear, all ye that fear God, and I will declare what he hath done for my soul.”
Tozer writes at the end of that devotion, “A true fear of God is a beautiful thing, for it is worship, it is love, it is veneration.”
How wonderful that we are able to fear and love God because He first loved us! And how sad when we reject living with the fear of God in mind. So many blessings with the former, and trials with the latter, missing that beautiful fountain of life.
Particularly loved the 6/3 devotion. Very true!
Thanks for the reminder. I signed up for this devotional series, but I’ve been just deleting them when they come in because I’m so busy! I’m going to make them a priority now. Thanks for the kick in the pants! 🙂
