It should be recorded as a small miracle that I am very close to finishing my first crocheting project! (Turns cartwheel. Well, would if I weren’t pregnant.)
Mind you, I’ve known how to crochet since I was 6. I’ll never forget the circle of little old ladies who let me sit among them for hours and patiently taught me and made me unravel my work over and over. (Where are the ladies like that now?)
But I have a personality conflict with crocheting: I get big ideas and lots of motivation that burn fast and strong and consequently, OUT before most of them come to fruition. I usually only complete a project that can be done quickly using materials I have on hand at the second the notion strikes. It’s a terrible trait, really.
The thought of a project that could take days–months? Makes me break out in hives.
So in spite of many crocheted beginnings, most of them remain just that.
But this! It’s a tiny afghan (I’m not done with it YET, but I promise, I will finish!) because big ones are totally out of the question. Alexa and I have been working together on it (she has the patience and loves it) and I just forgot how relaxing it is and how delicious it is to create something with your hands.
And then today, a friend steered me in the direction of figuring out how to make the cutesy cap to match! By the way, they are SO easy and can be made in a couple of hours. I *might* be able to remember exactly how I did it if you want to know 😉
I owe my renewed inspiration and the flower directions to Attic 24.

I’m teaching myself to knit and attempting to make a shawl 1st. Dunno how it’ll turn out, but I’m giving it a go. Crocheting is on my list to learn as well!

I have never had good “luck” with crocheting. The blankets I start always ripple horribly. I need to practice. Currently, quilting is my obsession but I am fickle and will probably get on a crochet kick eventually.

Way to go Kelly! That is precious! My crafting issue is that I get going on too many things at once. I love to sew, cross stitch, embroider, knit, etc., but I get something going in each catagory and end up finishing little to nothing before I’m bored with that particular creation and want to try something new. I erk myself! 😉
I have the exact same problem, I have too many projects going on at the same time! Then feel overwhelmed by it all.

I’m working on a baby blanket that is more like a toddler/small girl blanket. I might finish it sometime this year… maybe! 🙂
Adorable! I love the bright and happy colors. I am making a granny sqare blanket for my grandchild-to-be and I kind of ran out of steam as well. This revved me back up!

Okay – beautiful work, and did you want to know that this makes me weepy? I always thought I wasn’t “well rounded” enough…I love lots of things, only did a few with any proficiency, fewer as expert, most have waned.
But you know what? When I sat still with each of my kids, and learned what they are interested in, I just became interesting and multi-dimensional again! Learning new things from and with each of them, as individuals, by listening for their gifts to be revealed. I have a writer (always wanted to be), a tennis player (always wanted to be), a social butterfly (always wanted to be). Right in my path, three new healthy addictions. Blessings multiplied, exponentially. Amen.
I tried repeating the hat pattern in a bigger size and although the hat turned out equally cute, it was different 😉
After I get some expert advice, I will post a tutorial!
Ooh, fun! Baby booties are really easy to crochet (even I can do them) and then you can donate them to your local Crisis Pregnancy Center. CPCs often give them as gifts to pregnant clients and it really puts the reality of a living baby into the hearts of the girls that come in. It amazes me how often the girls go from “I can’t have a baby now” to “Oh my, I can’t believe it is so tiny” and the reality sits in.

Very cute. I would love a tutorial. I never progressed past doing several rows of chain stitch, which is mostly pretty useless in and of itself.
