It’s far away, but I know from experience, that when tragedy strikes, we are all much closer than it seems.
My heart is heavy as I grieve the shooting in the elementary school in Connecticut. There are no words, I just cry and pray for these families to be sustained in the midst of chaos and tragedy so senseless and cruel.
And let us be reminded, were it not for God’s restraining grace, we could be capable of such evil too.
We stand with you, Connecticut.

I and my children just stopped and prayed for these families. My mother-heart aches for them and I cry for such a sad tragedy. It makes my children so grateful that we have Christ in the midst of such an evil world. It would be easy to fall prey to fear, but I remind them that we serve a sovereign God and there is peace in that knowledge. But, our hearts still ache.

This story has just torn at my heart. I have had to pull away a bit because it’s just too much for my heart to take in full force. My sons are the ages of these children and I just look at them knowing they could be those kids. I could be those parents.
My prayers are with each of these families of these victims and the family of the shooter. I can’t imagine what they must be going through knowing their son, their brother, their cousin, their nephew, their grandson did such a horrible act. I can’t imagine what it’s like for them in their community right now. They must be facing such hatred. I pray for their lives as well.
I pray each of these families of these sweet children and staff members who is a victim will feel His love and His comfort during this time. I pray for comfort, strength, and for them to lay their heartache at His feet and allow Him to carry them through this horrific time.
I don’t believe just anyone could be capable of that. Other than this, thank you for the beautiful post. I had an awful dream about them; I hate tragedies like this in such a screwed up world.
I was in a McDonald’s having coffee with two women friends ~11:00 am today. The TV was on, showing a program about this mass murder. There were preschool and young elementary age children in the McDonald’s. One of my friends asked the manager on duty if she would change the TV to something neutral like HGTV or ESPN or turn it off. The manager turned it off. A mother in the next booth with her little girl thanked my friend for getting the TV turned off.
Then the 3 of us (2 Christian, 1 Jewish) prayed silently for the families of the people killed or injured in this massacre and for the survivors, especially for children in the school who might be traumatized by this event.
Driving home, I heard a Roman Catholic priest being interviewed about the school shootings on the radio. He said something like, “No way does this shake my trust in God. But things like this start to shake my faith in people.”
