Irony of ironies…we live in a world where a family who is committed to raising up children is often scorned for being selfish. When in fact, it is the ultimate lesson in selflessness…not only in terms of what the parent is learning, but what they are giving back to the world.
“What are you doing with all those children?!”
“I’m raising your future.”
“To be a mother is the grandest vocation in the world. No one being has a position of such power and influence. She holds in her hands the destiny of nations; for to her is necessarily committed the making of the nation’s citizens.” —Hannah Whitall Smith

I agree completely that raising children in the home is going to benefit our society. Though, sometimes I think I demphasize this because I don’t want it to seem that this is the primary reason to raise children at home with their own mothers. The main reason, of course, is the soul of the child, which is best nurtured in the home by his or her own parents. Still, thank you for this quote…just musing.

If we look at the rearing of children in this light (what they will be one day); it really does help in the daily “grind” doesn’t it?
Bethany,
Absolutely agreed 😉
Absolutely! Remember the quote (it’s slipping me now) from a founding father who said the government of tomorrow is in today’s classroom? Same idea with raising your children at home!
BTW, along those same lines, I was reading aloud out of DK Smithsonian’s: Children’s Encyclopedia of American History (not necessarily a conservative book)yesterday. We are studying WW2, and this particular paragraph was explaining totalitarian states. . .”a single party controls the government, the economy, and the MEANS OF SHAPING OPINION–RADIO, NEWSPAPERS, AND SCHOOLS.” (emphasis mine)
I am so thankful I have the opportunity with my hubby to help shape my children’s values and opinions with the Word of God.

Hi Kelly, thanks again for a great post. I think we might be on similar pages today. Check out what the Lord spoke to me today about this calling of Motherhood.

Great response.
I know I’ve told you before, but I wanted to take this opportunity to say again what a blessing your blog is to me. I love your comments and the thoughts you share. God’s truth is not very prevelent in our culture at large, so it’s so refreshing and encouraging to get a regular dose from you and other believers like you.
Thanks. 🙂
In His love,
Tina
It seems so strange to live in an openly hostile society towards children, and large families, but who do these people think will be paying for their pork and stimulus packages? Our children.
