Home motherhood/family/parenting Mother, Take the Time

Mother, Take the Time

by Kelly Crawford

I used to race, I used to hurry, I used to fret and frown and worry.

My children thought they had new names–“Hurry Up” and “We’re Gonna Be Late”!

Even when we were at home–laundry, cleaning, answer the phone…

I never had the extra time to sit and cherish these children of mine.

But in His grace the Lord broke through

And I saw everything anew.

We have but only a few days here, to love and share and pull them near.

And while there’re things that must be done,

Our lives are like the setting sun.

While its light is burning bright, before we face, alone, the night,

Let’s stop the madness of this race–

Let’s take back a slower pace!

Look into those grinning faces,

Plan your day with lots of spaces.

Grab a hand and take a walk, listen while your children talk.

Let them show you childhood things,

Take turns laughing on the swing.

Snuggle up beside the fire, kiss the hurt left by a brier.

Meet them with a morning smile, go out and fish a little while.

Choose carefully how you spend your time.

Don’t wait until you suddenly find

The wrenching grief of a heart that aches

Who loved too little and found out too late.

How beautiful! Thank you for posting. I am so thankful for the body of Christ that we can admonish and encourage one another – even in this modern day when we never even know each other face to face. Thank you Kelly.

Thanks Kelly! What a “perfect” reminder for me today as I deal with my growing up 16 yr.old son who just told me the other day..”Mom..you don’t need to know everything”…OUCH…let me tell ya! He is such an easy going kid and I realized after that comment from him that I have let some things slide..OUCH..and I will be working on those things..Blessings to you today..and Thanks again..more than you could know..even if he thinks he’s to macho for him mom!!He for sure is not..lol.

Kelly, thanks for posting this poem. A friend was talking to me just tonight about taking them time and being at home. She even mentioned you and your heart for being home. Then, after she left and I got kids to bed, I came and read your post for today. This is an area in my life where I need to grow so much. I need to learn to let something go, so that I can take the time with these kids to truly invest into their hearts and connect with them over more than just chores and food and school. Thanks again for your ministry.

Thank you Kelly, your post bring me to my knees and humble my heart. I am grateful to have sisters in Christ… who share GOD’S Love and speak HIS Truth. GOD bless you immensely. O how I love the LORD…

Such a wonderful reminder. And God is right on time with this message. This poem is “confirmation” of what I’ve been hearing God say to me these last few days. Thanks!
