Teach it to your children…
Family and marriage are institutions designed by God–they are not man-made. Perhaps then, we shouldn’t be surprised that the family is becoming an enemy. Who would have ever believed there would come a time when society would be hostile to what has always been considered the basic unit of its existence? It is why I think feminism has had the most damaging impact on our culture…because at the core, it seeks to separate family…with destruction as a result.
We have slid down a slippery slope and arrived at the belief that the basic unit of society is the INDIVIDUAL. (Think about it for a minute…look at all the ways families are divided and the expectations that is should be so…even within the church.) And when that is believed, the individual is very quickly lost in the state.
“Dr. Carle C. Zimmerman, Harvard University spent his life studying the history of the family. He has pointed out the family’s significance: that whenever the atomistic (separate, unrelated members) family develops, in which the authority of the father is no longer paramount, then there is a very quick disintegration of society, the total state takes over, and there is a radical collapse of civilization…..
With the development of the atomistic family–which is really no family at all–the home is simply a place to room and board while the state takes over the role as father–to take care of the family in its every need, providing for the children and the parents; the family no longer cares for itself; civilization collapses. ” -R.J. Rushdoony
(By the way, this paradigm does not exclude the rare single men and women not called to marriage; all still belong to a family and have a major importance in that role.)
Listen to Zimmerman’s conclusions:
He believed…
“..that a fundamental purpose of civilization is the empowerment and enabling of the family — and is absolutely key to the health of any civilization. … Nobody undertakes to have a large family because it’s fun, or, in advanced societies, because it’s economically beneficial. They do it because they believe that’s what people do. In other words, they believe that children are a blessing from God, and that we humans are participating in the divine will by begetting children and raising them up to carry on our civilization….
Mankind has consumed not only the crop, but the seed for the next planting as well. Whatever may be our Pollyanna inclination, this fact cannot be avoided. Under any assumptions, the implications will be far-reaching for the future not only of the family but of our civilization as well. The question is no longer a moral one; it is social.”
Building the family is the only option for surviving–slice it any way you like, our ideals and personal opinions won’t erase factual reality.

Go here and read this: (a tutorial on making scrapbooks out of old toilet paper rolls — they’re cute)! Talk about thrift and cheap gifts!!!!

This makes me think of Jeremiah 29, taken in context, but with special emphasis on verse 6 when God told Israel in bondage to have children–“that you may be increased there, and not diminished.”
By the way, the new look is nice.
I completely agree with you. We are in an anti-family society. The state has taken over the role of provider through the welfare system, school breakfast/lunch system. Parents are constantly looking over their shoulder when they discipline their children or educate their children according to their own convictions. Our family has been trying to adopt again domestically and have been waiting for almost 3 years while children languish in the foster care system at the mercy of judges and social workers who want to give these drug addicted mothers “one more chance”. Can you tell I’m frustrated?
Wow. Well put. The importance of family is not important at all. While our society says family is important, they often undermine it’s authority and sanctity!
“The state has taken over the role of provider through the welfare system, school breakfast/lunch system.”
Kristen, I could not agree more. And while I have no problem whatsoever with hungry children getting breakfast, I have met many parents who are all too willing to just turn their children over to the schools and aftercare programs, and day camps, pretty much entirely.
There is an expectation among many other moms that I have met, that it is the job of the school to provide all supplies, meals, discipline, even birthday/secular holiday celebrations. It’s as if some of these moms have completely given up being moms. Very, very sad.
Being a parent is a hard job, but even working moms must not give up. Being a parent is the FIRST job.
Thank you for continuing to shed a light on the muck that has developed in our society. Before coming home to fill my God-ordained role as a wife and mother, I didn’t see the extent of damage. The decline has been gradual for our generation. We need frequent doses of the Truth to replace the lies we’ve been fed. (The green looks great by the way! I think it conveys your warmth and strength!)
You speak the truth. The destruction and prevention of godly seed has resulted in a diminished church! God commands us to be fruitful and multiply and REPLENISH the earth. We bear His image. Satan hates that – hates life and has decieved Christians – convincing them to limit their families… We must, MUST break those chains of deception and follow God’s first command, which He NEVER rescended, to be fruitful and multiply.
Kelly, I absolutely LOVE your website. I always look forward to a notification in my inbox telling me that you’ve added a new post. By grace you exemplify the high calling of womanhood, wife and mother! You share pearls of wisdom and are playing a vital role in seeing God’s design for the family restored. Your ministry is invaluable! Thank you!!! I so enjoyed today’s post and it made me think of a book I’m currently reading ‘The Biblical Trustee Family’ by Andrea Schwartz. Andrea was mentored by Dr RJ Rushdoony and his wife Dorothy Rushdoony when they were still alive and her book equips families with the dominion tools necessary to walk out God’s design and purpose for the family. http://www.chalcedonstore.com/xcart/product.php?productid=4152&cat=0&page=1
Nicki,
Thanks SO much for those words! I’ll have to check into getting that book…sounds great.
Why, hello Nicki friend! Nice to bump into you here! 🙂
Hey Lori! Thanks to you I found this website! I’m very grateful to you! 🙂
This is so true! Thanks for revealing this to people who may not agree. We have been called to be a ministry to our daughter’s softball team. While some parents are there to support and help their daughter and their team, others use it as a babysitting service so they can get a “break.” I am always baffled and saddened by what people think of their own family God has given them.
Thought I should bring your attention to this:
In your stick figure picture you have Dad, Mom, Boy & Girl. = Perfect Family.
I wonder if you have realised that your picture is quite in contradiction to what you are writing about? I do not know if you have done that on purpose. I do know that that symbol of 2 children, 1 boy & 1 girl, mom & dad, was a very deliberate way of indoctrination on getting people to scale down on family size.
We own a book called “Where have all the children gone” where it shows how these subtle pictures have been widely used to conform societies minds that, two children are the perfect number.
So, for instance, the logo of Nestle has deliberately changed from 3 birdies in a nest, to two birdies in the nest.
Hope this makes sense to you.
(from a very pregnant, porridge-brained mommy)
Hi, Kelly. I appreciate your heart, since I also believe strongly in the importance of family, but I think it’s important not to get carried away by false fears. You did not mention, for instance, that Dr. Zimmerman’s book was originally published in 1947, a time when world politics were unstable enough to make anyone scared of imminent doom and intellectuals had a clear agenda about keeping women out of the workplace and out of higher education. There are lots of books from that time period that advocate the destruction of society if women didn’t stay at home and be guided by the menfolk, but here’s my question: when exactly were stay-at-home moms holding the fabric of society together? When was society all peace-loving and rosy cheeked? Clearly not in 1914, when the world blew up for the first time. Certainly not in the 1940s, when Hitler and Stalin murdered millions and the US let an A-bomb fall.
Or consider the Middle East. Family values are incredibly important over there. Fathers are to be respected, adultery/divorce is not tolerated, children are raised under strict authority, yet that area is notoriously unstable politically. It’s a complicated issue.
Please don’t misunderstand me. I’m not advocating that all moms ought to work or be disrespectful of men. I’m a very happy stay at home wife, so I would be a hypocrite to suggest that home life and family aren’t incredibly important. HOWEVER, I think we need to be careful about sowing false fears among Christians. Manipulating history to prove a point—however Biblical—never does the Gospel any favors. Love and godliness have always been under attack. This is nothing new, but neither is it anything to be afraid of.
God is in control, amen?
