A Door I Adore

by Kelly Crawford

If you are new to my blog, you may want to read about our recent “life change” in order to understand the rest of this post.

This is the door I didn’t know I couldn’t live without. On a trip with my husband to shop for doors, I wasn’t looking for anything beyond fairly ordinary, and as cheap as possible. I hadn’t given much thought to a front door so I wasn’t looking for anything special. But when I saw this door in a salvage store (cheaper than all the “standard” doors we had seen!!) I stopped, I’m pretty sure my heart rate increased, and I knew our door shopping was over. As Aaron “suggested” that he wasn’t sure how we would get it to seal, close from the outside, etc., I just stared at it, envisioning it on the front of our house and said to him confidently, eyes still on the door, “I’m sure you’ll figure it out”. Because he always does.

My lovely door means a lot of things to me. As the Lord leads us by the hand on this journey we wouldn’t have chosen, he continually opens new doors and reveals His glory in amazing ways. When I look at this door, I will always be reminded of His leading, of the new chapters in life, of things we lost and things we gained. Of new friendships and love expressed that we would have missed had this storm not visited us.

My door reminds me of a gentle Savior who says, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.”

Do we hear His voice and open the door? Do we follow Him no matter where the following takes us? Do we trust Him when we don’t know what is on the other side of the door? There is such sweet peace when we do.

I have not always liked this side of the door. And I can’t wait to walk through my new door, back into a place we can call home again. It’s not always easy, I don’t want to give the impression that there aren’t hard days.

But through those days we CAN see our Heavenly Father providing. The One who asks, “Why do you worry about what you will eat or drink or wear?” has proven that He is quite capable of caring for us, just as He promised.

My door will be a lasting reminder of His faithfulness to us. A new door, new opportunities, and new joys await.

We're making progress! Front porch and roof to be added very soon! Thank you to ALL our volunteers...without you, this would be impossible.

Kelly,

How very fitting! Your home isn’t being built in an ordinary way, and your front door will be anything BUT ordinary:) I’ll think of it as your door of remembrance and a visible reminder of God’s provision and faithfulness. So happy for you, and we continue to pray for you as you wait.

Blessings,

Sherry

Love the post. Thanks for the pic. What a cutie! He looks like Ashton. I still have the picture Ashton drew for me in my kitchen window sill. Thinking of him nearly every time I do dishes. Love you friend.

IT IS BEAUTIFUL!!! And Jax is SO precious!!! Thank you for once again testifying to the Faithfulness of the Lord! I don’t know if you would be interested, but I host a tiny little link-up on Fridays called “Pages in Your Heritage of Faith” where I encourage people to testify of His Faithfulness (Psalm 78). This post would be perfect! If you’d rather not, that’s fine. We rejoice with you in the progress toward a place to call home. 🙂 Just in case: http://iliveinanantbed.blogspot.com/2011/07/fruit-of-his-spirit-link-up-in-pages-of.html

It is absolutely beautiful. And more lovely because of what it represents to you and your journey.

God will open doors no man can close. Rev 3.

And on the other side – there is a greater anointing.

Much love,

Jasmine

A beautiful door, but even more so are the piggy toes I see peeking around it! I know you cannot wait until all those little feet pitter patter through that front door when it is planted firmly in your new home!
We pray for all of you still…

Kelly, first let me say that your new door is amazing! I’m sure you don’t remember me, but I was a faithful reader of your blog for a long time, until some things in my life became hectic and I wasn’t able to keep up with blogs the way I wanted to. I’m happy to say that things are much more calm now, and I’m looking forward to keeping up with you and your family more. Your words and your attitude through all that has been going on has been incredibly inspiring and encouraging, I am praying for you and your family.

Jax is just adorable!

And the door … I’ve had things “speak” to me like that before. It is wonderful having something that has a story, even if you don’t know what that story is. You can still imagine what that story is. It makes me wonder what things this door has seen and who has walked through it before. And now you are going to add chapters to that story! The house is growing quickly!

It’s going on five years since you wrote this post, and I know I read it, but it struck me in a way tonight, revisiting it, like never before.

As the Lord leads us by the hand on this journey…he continually opens new doors and reveals His glory in amazing ways. When I look at this door, I will always be reminded of His leading, of the new chapters in life, of things we lost and things we gained…

Do we follow Him no matter where the following takes us? Do we trust Him when we don’t know what is on the other side of the door?

Profound thoughts by which to live. Thank you, Kelly.
