25 Reasons We Homeschool
1. Christian parents are commanded to disciple their children.
2. We don’t have to deal with the disadvantages of peer dependency.
2. We get to pursue the many methods of education and suit them to each child’s learning style and interests.
4. Because we believe education is a transfer of a way of life.
5. Life is simpler and slower-paced.
6. We don’t have to buy all our kids a car, designer clothes and the latest technical gadgets.
7. They are more likely to be better socialized.
8. We can “think outside the classroom.”
9. Our girls can be free from the pressure of dual-careerism.
10. A lifestyle of learning affords freedom and flexibility.
11. We feel like one of the most important things missing in traditional education is the teaching of a biblical worldview. At home, we can make this priority.
12. We value relationships over any earthly thing.
13. We don’t believe in cookie-cutter children.
14. Life is much more like the “real world” than a classroom.
15. Because learning happens all the time–I want to be there.
16. Because conversation is huge.
17. Because there are so many options besides college.
18. Because, according to John Taylor Gatto, “schools hurt children.”
19. College is not our ultimate aim.
21. Because of the secret in Proverbs 3.
22. Parents are the most qualified to teach their children.
23. n important part of learning is work.
24. Homeschooling can improve marriage.
25. To avoid raising Socialists.

Awesome reminders! Thank you for the encouragement! Homeschool is fun and challenging, but so worth it for eternity!
You might want to correct #22 from “am” to “are”. 🙂
LOL! Thank you. Apparently a word was changed without the verb.
I home school our kids as well, and find it is has many benefits. My oldest right now is working on an essay about three things he loves most about home school for an essay contest.
I had to reread Proverbs 3 to figure out the “secret” you were referring to since I don’t have the Bible memorized by heart. I have to agree that there is definitely a lot of good information in that Proverb.
I most definitely agree with you that our kids learn far more than they would in a public school. 😉
Love this list!
Thank you! Love this list!!!
Not sure if you know, but #20 and #21 link to the same page. (Homeschooling for free information.) I realize this page is older, but I just found it and was reading through! Great list!
Charity–thanks for letting me know that…I’ll fix it 😉
Hi, I just found you through your post on the Matt Walsh blog. I’m excited to have found another homeschooling family (we’re actually starting our first year tomorrow!). I’ll be following along on fb and bloglovin. Thanks for the great article on the real war on women!
Emily–So happy you stopped by! And how fun–your first year..you will love. it. I hope to see you again!
I really enjoyed this post and look forward to reading through all the links. Our first baby is only 13 months so we are a long ways from formal homeschooling, but my husband and I are both looking forward to that season of our lives. We believe that we have a responsibility to our Lord to disciple and train our daughter (and any future children that the Lord may bless us with). We’ve already experienced some backlash for our choices, but it only strengthens our resolve. My baby will be home with momma where she belongs! I think I may print this post out to give to people when they ask why we would ever want to homeschool 🙂 Thank you for all the wonderful information you provide!
Just shared this on my blog. although I dont homeschool for religious reasons, I agree with most of these statements.
Socialist? For the love of God stop it
“Bill”,
LOL! Um, it’s not like they are trying to hide that fact. Socialism is a preferred order for most Americans and the school system is most certainly where socialists values are best taught. The system itself is socialist–social ownership paid for by the public.
